Preach and Urge Nothing Else But This

If I were a preacher, I would preach nothing else than the practice of the presence of God; if I were a director of souls, I would urge it upon everyone, so necessary and even easy do I believe it to be.

This exercise does not kill the body.  No effort, no strain, no special posture is called for: just glance upwards to God, to speak to God - the holiest, the firmest, the easiest and most efficacious manner of prayer.

Where Are We?

God, why do I not look always at you, just as you always look at me?  Why do You think so often of me, O my Lord, and why do I think so seldom of You?  Where are we, Where are we, O my soul?  Our true place is God and where is it that we find ourselves?

St. Francis de Sales

Looking for the Worse or the Best?

In dealing with ourselves, we should look for what is worse and make it, with God’s grace, the occasion of spiritual growth.  But in dealing with others, we should look for what is best, in order that, as we show mercy to others, God may show His grace and His mercy to us.

Venerable Fulton J. Sheen

The Church lives an authentic life when she professes and proclaims mercy – the most stupendous attribute of the Creator and of the Redeemer – and when she brings people close to the source of the Savior’s mercy [Confession], of which she is the trustee and dispenser.

The Most Important Business of Our Lives

Next to zeal for God's glory, and zeal for our own holiness, our own personal salvation is our first and greatest duty…Salvation then is the most important business of our lives and the only one and only work of our lives.  We must work at it with the utmost diligence and care and continually and without interruption.

Servant of God Cardinal Terence Cooke
